Super Six Racing took fans and horse racing aficionados on a thrilling ride last Friday night at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racetrack in Durban.
Around six hundred fans gathered on Friday 27 November to witness the final Super Six Racing trial for 2021. Not even the inclement weather could dampen the spirits of the spectators who were there to support their horse racing team – either kitted out in bright yellow, or bold red.
This radical transformation of horse racing proved to have everything required for an exhilarating, unique night out. Watching thoroughbred horses run six high energy races under lights was a new experience for most of the spectators, but this was not in any way a hindrance to the crowd lapping up the excitement. The easy-to-understand format, the quick paced programme, and the exciting scoring system provided a clear and vibrant platform for team supporters to follow.
The colourful team saddle cloths and modern, sleek jockey silks made it easy for spectators to follow the races and spot the winning horses. Fans quickly got behind their teams and cheered them on to the nail biting climax of the evening where the yellow team, captained by Nicky Roebuck pipped red to the post – by only one point!
To support the riveting atmosphere, cheerleaders took to the stage between races and a DJ played all the latest hits to get the crowd up on their feet. A jumping castle and face painting station kept the young fans occupied during the two hour programme.
Astonished trainers and jockeys got sight of our veteran commentator, Graeme Hawkins, jiving on the stage and singing an impromptu duet with KZN radio DJ and social media influencer Hope Mbhele.
“This is what horse racing needs. A completely new fan base for the sport where everyone can participate. Super Six Racing has shown the world tonight how this fast-paced, easy to understand product can get you on your feet cheering, even if you are completely new to horse racing as a sport,” says Angus Campbell who heads up the local SSR team. “We’ve run multiple trials through the year and are really happy with the results and we can’t wait to show everyone the digital and tech innovations we have lined up which will take Super Six Racing to a whole new level”.
