- Live events provide influencers perfect opportunity to build their following on social media
- A Social Pioneer Program creates a winning relationship between event organisers and influencers
- Influencers who show big support and bring in the crowds to the upcoming Live Series Championship will reap the rewards
SAVVY social media users in South Africa are being given a fresh opportunity to earn from their growing influencer brands and develop new marketing and hospitality skills by attracting their followers to some of the country’s newest and fastest-growing live events.
Social media influencers who are active on social platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok are being invited to sign up as Global Team Horse Racing (GTH) Social Pioneers, as an event ambassador. GTH is the new, high-octane, team horse racing event series coming to Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse over four Friday evenings from August 5 to September 2, 2022 (see here).
Influencers are generally social media account holders who have managed to attract large numbers of followers through shared passions and engaging content. So, what is the difference to a GTH Social Pioneer? Avela Khuluse who manages the Social Pioneers says: “A GTH Social Pioneer is an ambitious and effective marketer who is rewarded, based on their success, in bringing people to the party! The GTH Live Series is an ideal platform to teach influencers new skills and grow their reach, all while building awareness and enthusiasm for the newest horse racing format in South Africa.”
Avela credits events management agency, Campbell + Campbell, with coming up with the Social Media Pioneer concept, which was tested at the renowned Gauteng Summer Cup from 2016 to 2019. The programme worked with scores of young Social Pioneers and brought a large group of new fans to the event to experience horse racing for the first time. Avela is continuing her role with the same team for the GTH Live Series.
“The Gauteng Summer Cup was the fastest-growing horse racing event in Africa during the period we worked on it and was the perfect place for social stars to engage with their fan base. The GTH Series at Hollywoodbets Greyville is another brilliant opportunity, especially for Durban’s bright young influencer stars” says Avela.
Avela said: “Our approach is to use a portion of our marketing budget to incentivise our social pioneers to bring their followers to our live events. It’s a winning concept for both them and the GTH series.”
As the GTH series is team-based, Social Pioneers will choose a team to support and, with the help of their followers, decide how they will show their support for their team of runners on race day.
“Besides the various brand and social media incentives accrued to the pioneers, there are also some awesome prizes, including a cash prize of R5 000 for the Best Dressed Team.”
Avela concluded: “GTH is fresh and exciting, it’s fast-paced and unlike anything spectators have ever seen before, making it an ideal opportunity for up-and-coming influencers to get involved and build their personal brands while contributing to the overall success of team-based horse racing!”
The races will be broadcast live on SuperSport, so stay tuned. You can also follow the GTH social media pages to find out all the juicy details at @gthracingza on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter”
